What you'll be doing
The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Emergency Department Navigator Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) supports young people in crisis by delivering expert, trauma-informed care in Emergency Departments. The role combines clinical practice, leadership, education, and research. Other responsibilities will include:
- Delivering acute mental health assessment, risk management and short-term intervention for young people
- Providing expert clinical advice and consultation across multidisciplinary teams
- Leading improvements in clinical practice and care pathways across the District
- Contributing to research and applies findings to improve mental health nursing
- Designing and delivering mental health education programs and strategic service planning

Essential Requirements:
- Qualification: Minimum of five years full time equivalent post registration experience, with a minimum of three years full-time experience in the specialty field of child and adolescent mental health. In addition, the employee must have approved post graduate nursing qualifications relevant to the field in which appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by WSLHD or working towards same.
- Registration: Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse Division 1
Selection Criteria:
- Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse Division 1, with a minimum of five years full time equivalent post registration experience, with a minimum of three years full-time experience in the specialty field of Child and Adolescent Mental Health. In addition, the employee must have approved post graduate nursing qualifications relevant to the field in which appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by WSLHD or working towards same.
- Demonstrated evidence-based skills in the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents and their families presenting with complex mental health issues in a developmental framework.
- Extensive experience working with children and families who present with significant emotional, behavioural, and/or mental health difficulties which includes clinical competencies to practice at an advanced or expanded level in child and adolescent mental health.
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) including the ability to build therapeutic relationships and liaise with all levels of staff within interdisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrates high level capabilities in critical thinking and problem solving, with higher order conflict resolution and negotiation abilities.
- Demonstrates ability to provide education on complex clinical issues to clinicians, patients, and carers, with demonstrated participation in formal and informal education programs with ability to identify educational needs for the organisation.
- Current unrestricted Australian drivers’ licence and willingness to use for work purposes.
