What you'll be doing
The Clinical Midwifery Specialist (CMS2) employs advanced clinical skills and exercises extended autonomy of decision making.

The Dragonfly CMS2 will oversee case management of women receiving care in the Westmead MCP and mentor/support the midwives employed in Dragonfly Midwifery Caseload Practice (MCP) at Westmead Hospital to provide continuity of care that is focused on Aboriginal women, women having an Aboriginal baby, and their partners and families through a caseload model of care women and their babies
 
The Dragonfly CMS2 will liaise with the WMH Clinical Midwifery Educators (CMEs) to ensure a standard of excellence in midwifery practice is maintained by the midwives engaged in Dragonfly MCP. The Dragonfly CMS2 functions within the Policies and Procedures of WMH, WSLHD and the NSW Ministry of Health under the direction of the Midwifery Unit Manager MCP

Essential Criteria:

  • Registration: Current registration as Registered Midwife with AHPRA

Selection Criteria:

  1. Must hold a post registration qualification and a minimum three years full time equivalent post graduate qualification experience in midwifery continuity of care/ caseload /MGP practice
  2. This is a targeted open Aboriginal Position. Preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander descent, have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with their local Aboriginal community. An applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and exemption is claimed under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW
  3. Proven competence in advanced midwifery skills: Perineal suturing/ cannulation / maternal and neonatal resuscitation/ speculum examination /comprehensive assessment of the newborn
  4. Holds a current NSW full drivers licence
  5. Demonstrated understanding of the broader Aboriginal Health issues including demonstrated understanding of the of the unique medical, physical, social and emotional issues in Aboriginal maternal and infant
  6. Current Driver’s Licence valid in Australia and willingness to use for work purposes
  7. Demonstrated commitment to professional development
  8. Demonstrated mentorship and clinical teaching skills
