Support recovery, rehabilitation and therapeutic care for forensic mental health patients within a new specialist inpatient service.

Be part of the new 20-bed Low Secure Forensic Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Budyari Gamada, Blacktown Hospital, opening 13 October 2026. This is a unique opportunity to join a contemporary service from the beginning and contribute to its culture, model of care and patient experience.

You’ll work within a supportive multidisciplinary environment committed to delivering safe, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented and evidence-based care.

• Join a new specialist forensic mental health service within Western Sydney Local Health District.

• Work collaboratively with Allied Health professionals, nursing staff and the broader multidisciplinary team.

• Support patients with complex needs throughout their treatment and rehabilitation journey.

• Contribute to a culture focused on consumer-centred care, education, research and innovation.

• Work as part of the broader Forensic Mental Health Network, supporting continuity of care across NSW.

What you'll be doing 
As an Allied Health Assistant, you’ll play an important role in supporting the delivery of Allied Health services to forensic mental health patients under the direct and indirect supervision of Allied Health professionals. You’ll combine therapeutic, rehabilitation and operational support to promote recovery and positive patient outcomes.

• Facilitate and support psycho-educational groups, therapeutic activities and 1:1 interventions under supervision.

• Support patients to work towards their recovery and rehabilitation goals, including supervised community access and appointments.

• Assist with therapeutic assessments, interventions, group programs, escorts and travel training.

• Contribute to the safe and effective operation of the inpatient unit, including patient monitoring, observations and ward-based activities.

• Complete clinical documentation, data collection and administrative duties while maintaining your professional development and participating in supervision and training.

How to Apply

1. Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance or equivalent tertiary qualification in a relevant field, or related work experience with a willingness to complete required skill sets

2. Understanding of the concept and principles of mental health recovery and commitment to facilitate consumer recovery

3. Experience in working with people with a mental illness

4. Ability to work with the multidisciplinary team, effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels with internal and external stakeholders

5. Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and complete activities (including ability to work within scope of practice and seek assistance when required)

6. Demonstrated computer literacy skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office and email applications

7. Current NSW Class C Drivers Licence and willingness to use for work purposes.
