Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above positions in the Western Sydney Local Health District.  The positions will be primarily located at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals within the Department of Orthopaedics.

 

There are 2 positions with the following expected commencement dates:

·         1 March 2025

·         1 September 2025

 

Successful applicants will be required to provide on-call duties as part of the Orthopaedics roster at Blacktown and Mount Druitt hospitals and run the weekly Fracture Clinic on Wednesday afternoon.

 

This fixed term VMO will not have any facility allocated elective waitlist and will not have an elective waiting list. This position will be supervising trauma lists, once a week fracture clinic and would be assisting the quinquennial contracted orthopaedic VMOs only in relation to breached elective and trauma patients only.

 

This position involves a rotating trauma VMO model which is used in hospitals with Blacktown hospital’s level of orthopaedic activity and will provide prompt specialist care, facilitate early discharge to reduce length of stay and reduce patient complaints.

 

Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.

 

Essential Requirements for Appointment

1.    Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.

2.    Sound clinical knowledge in orthopaedics & trauma demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

 

Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Western Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the District for clinical matters.

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997 and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014.

Selection Criteria

 

Please outline how you satisfy the selection criteria listed below. In addressing the selection criteria, include any relevant skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience:

 

1.    Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.

2.    Sound clinical knowledge in orthopaedics & trauma demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

3.    Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

·         High level interpersonal and communication skills.

·         Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.

·         Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.

·         Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.

4.    Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.

5.    Position will suit applicants with sub speciality interest in orthopaedic surgery.

6.    The job would suit applicants who have recently completed their fellowship training.

7.    Applicants who have experience in orthopaedic service and who has completed a recognised post fellowship training in trauma would be highly regarded.
