Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). The position will be primarily located at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals within the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine.

The successful applicant will be required to provide clinical services for the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, including inpatient care (participating on the on-call roster, outpatient care, bronchoscopy, pleural procedures and lung function reporting.

The applicant will be expected to participate in the Quality assurance aspects of the department, participate in administrative duties and have oversight of discharge summaries, DRG coding.

Successful applicants must possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Applicants expecting to be awarded fellowship within 3 months are eligible to apply.

Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.

Successful applicants must possess procedural skills to independently perform bronchoscopy in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

Sound clinical knowledge in Respiratory Medicine, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

Significant experience managing patients with Lung Cancer and Pleural pathology.

 

Demonstrates skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

·         High level interpersonal and communication skills.

·         Experience in working with and leading a multidisciplinary team.

·         Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.

·         Significant experience in clinical research and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.

 

Essential Requirements for Appointment

1.    Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable).

2.    Sound clinical knowledge in Respiratory Medicine demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position Department of Respiratory Medicine, BMDH.

 

Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Western Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the District for clinical matters.

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

4.    Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.
