About the opportunity


We are seeking the services of a General Practitioner – Visiting Medical Officer for Coolah Multipurpose Service. The GP VMO will provide contemporary comprehensive service for optimal patient outcomes to achieve safe clinical practice.

Where you'll be working

You will be based at Coolah Multipurpose Service, a part of the Western NSW Local Health District.

Coolah's Multipurpose Service overview:

  • Emergency department is open 24/7 staffed with Registered Nurse triage experience with approximately 135 presentations per month.
  • Ambulance service is co-located on the hospital site.
  • 5 Acute patient beds with a 68% occupancy.
  • 20 residential aged care beds with 100% occupancy.

Coolah has 2 primary schools,1 highschool and 1 preschool. It has a supermarket, hardware store and several places to eat out. The community is supportive of the hospital and there is an internet service in the town.

Coolah is situated on the picturesque Coolaburragundy River and nestled in a valley of the Liverpool Range. Its located 137 km north east of Dubbo. The town is surrounded by undulating hills and fertile river flats and is an attractive service town for the surrounding agricultural district.

It is also the gateway to the magnificent Coolah Tops National Park. It is a playground for walkers and mountain bikers looking for a great cycling and camping experience. See magnificent waterfalls on walking trails like the Falls link tract, Racecourse track or Grasstrees track. It is home to an abundance of wildlife and birdlife, you might see wallabies, eagles, gliders and owls.

Coolah firmly stakes its claim as being the home of the original 'Black Stump'. It was here that the colloquial saying 'beyond the black stump', meaning 'beyond the limits of settlement or civilisation' is said to have originated. A replica Black Stump and rest area has been established nine kilometres from Coolah to mark its historical location.

 

To apply, please address the following Selection Criteria

 

  1. Unconditional General and/or Specialist Registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and/or Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and/or Vocational Recognition as a General Practitioner.
  3. Minimum three (3) years post graduate clinical experience. Previous experience in Emergency Medicine, General Practice, Adult Internal Medicine, Paediatrics or Rural Medicine an advantage.
  4. Sound knowledge of and commitment to clinical quality and patient safety, work health and safety, working within NSW Health Policy and current clinical practice guidelines.
  5. Knowledge of contemporary clinical management and modern approaches in assessment and management of the broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions. Competence in performing the range of procedures commonly undertaken in a rural emergency department.
  6. An understanding of patient centred care and demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team including demonstration of NSW Health CORE values in delivering safe and high quality care.
