About the role
The Perinatal Infant Mental Health (PIMH) Clinicians sit within a specialist mental health service that operates across Western NSW with virtual links to other PIMH clinicians.

The clinical role seeks to make a meaningful impact early in life — supporting parents with complex mental illness and infants during a critical developmental window. Working with diverse families in communities, where access to care truly matters. Building strong therapeutic relationships and seeing tangible improvements in maternal mental health and parent–infant attachment.

There is variety in the role— from clinic sessions to telehealth, outreach travel, and home visits and groups with partnerships internal and external to health. You will be part of a values-driven, culturally respectful team that prioritises equity, trauma-informed care, and early intervention.

Specifically, within your caseload, you will be responsible for intake assessments with pregnant or postnatal parents. Completing comprehensive mental health, risk, and psychosocial assessments, including screening for trauma, DV, and parent–infant relational health. Delivering short-term therapeutic sessions, via face-to-face, home visits or telehealth. Consultation Liaison and complex care planning is integral to the role where you will coordinate care with GPs, midwives, child and family health nurses, Aboriginal health services, and NGOs amongst others.

You will participate in team meetings, case reviews or case conferences contributing to collaborative care planning and review. There is occasional travel to rural communities for outreach clinics or conducting follow-up care for existing clients. The target population are Pregnant and postnatal women, their infants, and families — across the perinatal period (up to 2 years postpartum).

Supporting you is important and there will be ongoing clinical supervision, tailored to the clinician’s discipline and level of experience and opportunities for professional development, including training specific to perinatal and infant care and family context.

There are peer support, case reviews, and multidisciplinary meetings, fostering a collaborative and reflective team culture. You will have access to district-wide resources, mentoring opportunities, and support from senior clinicians and team leaders including the District Coordinator for Perinatal focussed services.
