About the opportunity
The Director of Emergency Medicine will provide medical managerial oversight, strategic direction and expert clinical advice to the Emergency Department. The position will be the line manager of medical personnel employed by the Emergency Department and will have oversight responsibility of medical practice within the service.
The position will consult with clinicians working in, or interacting with, the Emergency Department on achieving and maintaining best practice within the development and implementation of Models of Care. The position will provide clinical leadership to support the implementation of change to systems, culture, processes, communications, staff and resources and then sustain and spread appropriately.
The role will work closely with the nursing, allied health and administrative leaders in the Department who together provide leadership to the staff in the service across all occupational groups. The Director of Emergency Medicine holds a key leadership responsibility to ensure that proactive and effective relationships exist with other clinical services across the health service, primary care providers, LHD and health service leaders, and NSW Ambulance and retrieval services.
In addition to the current opportunity, there are 0.5 FTE clinical hours available for a FACEM (Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine). Interested candidates are encouraged to apply for the Staff Specialist PPT Emergency Medicine position under requisition number REQ606718.

1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist, and/or overseas training specialist pathways, and hold a current fellowship with the College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM).
2. Extensive clinical experience in Emergency Medicine and management together with a credible reputation as a senior emergency medicine clinician.
3. Demonstrated clinical leadership including the ability to motivate, engage and influence clinicians to participate in improving patient outcomes through the development and implementation of evidence based Models of Care and other related frameworks.
4. Demonstrated experience working in complex organisations with an understanding or priorities in the NSW Health system.
5. Demonstrated experience in successfully leading complex projects with competing priorities and deadlines.
6. Proven ability to develop, deliver to and report on performance against Key Performance Indicators.
7. Demonstrated experience in interpreting complex information accurately and rapidly. Demonstrated ability to lead change and to work effectively within an executive team.
8. Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
