Achieve Something Great 
This role provides high‑level administrative and secretarial support to the Ethics and Research Governance Unit within the District Research Directorate, playing a critical role in supporting ethical review and research governance processes for studies involving human participants. The successful candidate will contribute to improving the quality, consistency and efficiency of research ethics and governance applications through pre‑review activities and continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with researchers, Human Research Ethics Committee members, and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, this position supports compliant, timely and high‑quality research activity across SWSLHD. The role is embedded within a collaborative and supportive team culture, focused on enabling safe, ethical and high‑quality health and medical research outcomes. 

 

Are You the Right Fit? 
The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated experience providing high‑level administrative or secretariat support, with the capacity to operate in a complex, regulatory environment. They will have knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly develop an understanding of, policies and guidelines relating to human research ethics and research governance. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, with a proven ability to liaise professionally and effectively with researchers, committee members, and a broad range of stakeholders. The successful applicant will be highly organised, able to manage competing priorities, maintain meticulous attention to detail, and consistently meet regulatory and operational deadlines in a high‑volume setting. They will work effectively both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative, sound judgement, and strong problem‑solving capabilities. 

 

Selection Criteria 
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below. 

  • Demonstrated experience (preferably within a health or medical research environment) providing high level administrative/secretariat support, including coordinating meetings, managing databases, preparing and handling correspondence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with researchers, committee members, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and a high-volume workload, showing strong attention to detail, initiative and the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge and understanding of policies as they relate to research involving humans, health and medical research environments or demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply relevant policies and procedures.
  • Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
