What You'll Be Doing

Assisting in providing the Substance Use in Pregnancy service to the Bankstown-Lidcombe and Liverpool areas, delivering a liaison and consultation service in the provision of care and clinical leadership in the management of women, who are pregnant, with substance use issues and their families antenatally up to the childs 2nd year.


Provides clinical services in accordance with Clinical Guidelines for the Management of Substance Use during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period, NSW Health Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Guidelines, NSW Health Frontline Guidelines for the Protection of Children and Young People (2000), Families First (2000) and the NSW Health Department Circular, 2000/100 –Protecting Children and Young People, NSW Domestic Violence guidelines and the Health Home Visiting Guidelines.


Ensure safe, high quality client care is delivered in accordance with SWSLHD and Drug Health Services policies and procedures, nursing philosophy and current standards of practice. Attend relevant meetings of departments and services within SWSLHD. Maintain services that fosters clinical leadership, education, and professional development.


The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is an expert practitioner who, through leadership facilitates evidence based practice. The CNC will promote a service which fosters clinical excellence, research and professional leadership. The CNC contributes to quality health care by collaborating with the health care providers and consumer groups, developing clinical practice standards and evaluating their outcomes. The CNC is responsible for providing services which facilitate effective management of the care in the given specialty.
