Achieve Something Great
The Aboriginal Health Promotion Manager leads a small Aboriginal Health Promotion Team to deliver culturally responsive programs that improve health outcomes and reduce health inequities for Aboriginal communities across south west Sydney.
This position is responsible for providing strategic and cultural leadership across the team, fostering a culturally safe workplace and strengthening partnerships across South Western Sydney Local Health District, including partnerships with Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and Aboriginal Health Services.
The position leads the planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based health promotion initiatives aligned with Closing the Gap priorities and local community needs, supporting the implementation of the 2023-2027 Aboriginal Health Plan.
The role ensures Aboriginal community priorities, culture and perspectives inform strategic planning, service development, advocacy, and culturally responsive health promotion policy and practice.
Be part of something bigger
SWSLHD operates across the traditional lands of the Dharawal, Darug and Gundungurra peoples and works in partnership with local Aboriginal communities to deliver culturally responsive health care.
As an Aboriginal Health Promotion Manager, you will be part of a broader Aboriginal workforce and community, working alongside Aboriginal Health teams and Aboriginal staff across the District. We recognise that culturally responsive health promotion requires strong professional and cultural support. In this role you will have access to:
- Dedicated Aboriginal cultural support and guidance through the Aboriginal Health Unit to strengthen cultural leadership, inform decision-making and support culturally responsive health promotion practice.
- Cultural strengths mapping and opportunities to connect with our Aboriginal Health and Workforce teams and Aboriginal staff networks across the District.
- A collaborative Health Promotion Service, working alongside health promotion professionals and teams to support the delivery of evidence-based health promotion initiatives.
Are You the Right Fit?
We are seeking a culturally strong and experienced Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leader who is passionate about improving Aboriginal health outcomes and advancing health equity. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

- Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to lead, motivate and support a team to deliver culturally responsive health promotion programs.
- Ability to provide cultural leadership and embed Aboriginal perspectives, community priorities and ways of working across programs and services.
- Strong partnership and communication skills, with experience working with Aboriginal communities, organisations and key stakeholders.
- Strategic health promotion experience, including program planning, implementation and evaluation, with a commitment to improving Aboriginal health outcomes and equity.
