As Nurse Manager (Grade 5) of the Intensive Care Unit at Liverpool Hospital, you will lead a service that delivers complex, life‑saving care to some of the most critically unwell people in one of NSW’s fastest‑growing communities.
Reporting to the Director of Nursing & Midwifery and supported by a highly collaborative Nursing and Midwifery Executive Team, alongside the ICU Medical Director, you will be empowered to lead with confidence and purpose. This senior leadership environment encourages innovation, bold thinking, and meaningful change.
In this pivotal role, you will hold operational accountability for nursing services within the ICU while also shaping the strategic direction of ICU nursing. You will champion person‑centred care, foster a culture of compassion and excellence, and lead initiatives that strengthen research, quality improvement, and service innovation. Your leadership will ensure the unit remains adaptable, forward‑thinking, and recognised for exceptional patient outcomes — now and into the future.
Are You the Right Fit?
You are an experienced and values‑driven ICU leader who brings clinical credibility, strong people‑focused leadership, and the confidence to guide a complex, high‑performing Intensive Care Unit. You will demonstrate:
- Extensive critical care experience at Nurse Unit Manager level or an equivalent senior nursing role.
- A transformational leadership style that inspires, engages, and supports large multidisciplinary teams through change.
- A compassionate, person‑centred approach that values patients, families, and staff.
- Proven ability to build a positive, high‑trust team culture that supports wellbeing, professional growth, and excellence in care.
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to balance competing operational and strategic priorities.
- Financial, workforce, and resource management expertise, with confidence managing budgets and service demands.
- A calm, resilient, and professional presence in high‑pressure environments.
- A commitment to research, evidence‑based practice, quality improvement, and service innovation.
- Post‑graduate qualifications in critical care, leadership, management, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- A genuine passion for leading change and shaping the future of ICU nursing.
Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.
- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with relevant post graduate qualifications or equivalent work experience or a combination of study and experience deemed appropriate by SWSLHD.
