Achieve Something Great 
We are seeking a passionate and community-connected Aboriginal Health Worker to join our Youth Health Service and support the social, emotional, and physical wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. This role is central to delivering culturally safe, youth-friendly, and trauma-informed care for young people aged 12 to 24 years of age. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Aboriginal Health Worker will build strong, trusting relationships with young people, families, Elders, and community, and support access to health care, early intervention, and ongoing support.

The successful applicant will play a key role in:

  • Providing culturally appropriate health education, advocacy, and support for Aboriginal young people
  • Supporting engagement, follow-up, and continuity of care within the Youth Health Service
  • Strengthening partnerships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCHOs), schools, and community services
  • Promoting self-determination, cultural identity, and connection to community as protective factors for health and wellbeing

  • Strong cultural knowledge and connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • A genuine passion for working with young people
  • Experience or interest in youth health, social and emotional wellbeing, or community health
     

The ability to work collaboratively while also advocating strongly for Aboriginal young people. This is an identified Aboriginal position and applicants must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and be accepted by the local Aboriginal community. 2. Working with Aboriginal young people Describe your experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people. How do you engage young people in a way that is culturally safe, respectful, and youth-friendly? 
3. Cultural safety and advocacy in health services This role sits within a Youth Health Service. How would you support cultural safety for Aboriginal young people accessing a mainstream health service, and how would you advocate for a young person if you identified barriers to care? 
4.  Community connection and collaboration Explain how you work with families, community, Elders, or Aboriginal organisations to support the health and wellbeing of young people. Please provide an example where possible.  
5. Social and emotional wellbeing and self-care Aboriginal young people may experience complex social and emotional wellbeing challenges. How do you support young people in a trauma-informed way, while also maintaining professional boundaries and looking after your own wellbeing?
6.  Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
