Are you an Aboriginal person with strong cultural knowledge, connection to community and a passion for building cultural capability?
This is an opportunity to join SWSLHD as an Aboriginal Cultural Capability Facilitator and play a key role in strengthening cultural capability and cultural safety across a large metropolitan Local Health District.
You will facilitate Aboriginal cultural capability training across the South Western Sydney region, supporting staff to build their knowledge, understanding and confidence to work respectfully and safely with Aboriginal people, families and communities. You will also contribute to broader cultural capability strategies and initiatives that strengthen culturally safe workplaces and improve the experience of Aboriginal people accessing our health services.
Working across Liverpool and Campbelltown Hospitals, as well as other sites and services across SWSLHD, you will build relationships, facilitate meaningful conversations and support staff to turn cultural learning into culturally safe practice.
What you’ll do
- Work collaboratively within the Aboriginal Cultural Capability team, contributing to shared priorities, supporting colleagues and maintaining a flexible, team-focused approach.
- Design, facilitate and evaluate and continuously improve cultural capability programs, including Respecting the Difference and broader workforce development initiatives.
- Facilitate challenging conversations about Aboriginal culture, racism, bias and cultural safety, confidently responding to resistance, questions and differing perspectives.
- Contribute to organisation-wide cultural capability strategies, resources and initiatives that strengthen cultural safety for Aboriginal staff, patients, families and communities.
- Build relationships with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders across the organisation to ensure Aboriginal perspectives and community knowledge inform cultural capability activities.
- Work independently while managing competing priorities across multiple sites and services.

As an Aboriginal Cultural Capability Facilitator, you will be part of a broader Aboriginal workforce and community, working alongside Aboriginal Health, Aboriginal Workforce and cultural capability colleagues to strengthen cultural safety across SWSLHD.
This role provides an opportunity to bring your cultural knowledge, lived experience and connection to community into the workplace and influence how staff understand, engage with and provide services to Aboriginal people.
You will work across a diverse metropolitan health service, connecting with Aboriginal staff, community and services across the District while contributing to initiatives that support a culturally safe and inclusive environment for both staff and patients.

- Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with strong cultural identity, cultural knowledge and connection to community.
- Have demonstrated experience facilitating workshops, delivering education or training programs, and confidently engaging groups.
- Strong ability to adapt communication approaches for executive leaders, frontline staff, clinicians, corporate teams, students and community stakeholders.
- Ability to confidently draw on lived experience and cultural knowledge when supporting learning and cultural capability development.
- Have the confidence and self-awareness to facilitate difficult conversations about racism, bias and cultural safety, while maintaining professionalism when challenged.
- Demonstrated ability to manage cultural load, maintain wellbeing and sustain effective practice in a culturally demanding role.
- Demonstrate strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to quickly establish trust, credibility and productive working relationships with staff, leaders, Aboriginal communities and stakeholders.
Selection Criteria

- In this role being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational requirement. Tell us about your mob and connection to culture?
- Relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent demonstrated experience in developing and delivering programs in the Aboriginal cultural capability training and/or workforce development.
- Demonstrated experience designing and facilitating cultural capability education and community engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships to address challenges related to cultural capability, inclusion and systemic barriers to create change.
Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
