Where you'll be Working

Goulburn Base Hospital is in Southern NSW LHD, approximately 2 hours from Sydney (195 kms) and 1 hour from Canberra (90 kms). Goulburn was established as Australia's first inland city in 1863, is located in the Southern Tablelands and has a population of approximately 30,000. It is situated on Gundungurra and Ngunnawal lands. Today, it is a relaxed country town, home to the Big Merino (the world’s largest concrete sheep), the Lieder Theatre Company (Australia’s oldest theatre company) and the famous Trapper’s Bakery.

The hospital is located in a new Clinical Services Building and has approximately 100 beds, with services consisting of an ICU, paediatric unit, maternity unit, rehabilitation unit, general surgical unit, and a medical inpatient unit. The ED and operating suite operate at a Level 4 role delineation, with the Canberra Hospital being the nearest Tertiary referral centre. Goulburn Base Hospital is the regional referral centre for the Level 3 and Level 2 facilities in the Inland Network of Southern NSW LHD. Mental Health is also situated on the Goulburn Hospital campus, in the Chisholm Ross Centre.

The stroke service will be a primary stroke centre in accordance with the National Acute Stroke Service Framework and Clinical Care Standard, delivering best practice contemporary stroke care, providing care closer to home for Southern NSW LHD residents, and will consist of an acute stroke unit attached to the medical inpatient unit, and a stroke rehabilitation service attached to the rehabilitation inpatient unit. The stroke service will be supported by a multidisciplinary team including medical, nursing and allied health staff and clinical and non clinical support services. The stroke service will have formalised network arrangements with a tertiary level stroke service provider. The stroke medical lead will form part of the multidisciplinary project team working to establish this new service, the first of its kind for Southern NSW Local Health District.

Goulburn Base Hospital has a close academic and training partnership with the ANU Rural Clinical School, and a newly opened educational and high-fidelity simulation facility is on the Goulburn Hospital campus, which is regularly used for teaching sessions.
