What you'll be doing
This traineeship is a position within the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Service. The traineeship aims to increase the AOD Aboriginal Workforce. The trainee will work to support Aboriginal people experiencing AOD issues with a focus on culturally appropriate and safe care delivery and work in conjunction with the broader AOD team. As a trainee, you will have the opportunity to build your skills and knowledge through practical experience working alongside experienced professionals.
Selection Criteria
- Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. (NB applicants race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW).
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with their local Aboriginal community.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current health issues relevant to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities as outlined by Southern Local Health District and NSW health priorities.
- Willingness and commitment to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and deliver services to both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal clients.
- Commitment to work as Aboriginal AOD trainee (under supervision) as part of a multidisciplinary team under an agreed trainee pathway suited to the applicants prior skills and experience.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with Aboriginal individuals, families and communities, and network with other services and health professionals.
- Competent computer skills utilising varied and appropriate software programs (e.g., word processing, data management systems and spreadsheets.
- Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers’ licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.
