About the Role
  
Community Mental Health Services provide a range of services designed to help support the recovery and help consumer stay well in the community. The team provide specialist services for young people, children and families, adults, and older people. Community mental health services include a specialist Aboriginal Mental Health Team, bilingual mental health workers and Peer Support Workers. Our main sites are at Canterbury, Croydon, Camperdown, Marrickville, and Redfern Community Health Services. The role will be based at Croydon Health Centre.

The position provides specialist assessments and interventions for young people experiencing psychosis consistent with the standards and principles of the Early Intervention in Psychosis National Guidelines

The primary purpose is to provide psychosocial interventions aiming for maximal symptomatic and functional recovery and prevention of relapse. These objectives include:

  • To provide effective community mental health care during the critical early phase of illness. This involves proactive engagement and initiation of clinical therapies.
  • To reduce the duration of untreated psychosis, limit the impact of a first episode of psychosis, foster hope that recovery is possible, and maximize the quality of life of consumers, carers, and their families.
  • To work in partnership with other agencies and carers to promote the recovery for the young person minimising any longer term disability factors.

    Ideal Candidate
    • Recognised tertiary qualifications in Social Work or Occupational Therapy with current registration with AHPRA, if applicable, as well as extensive clinical experience in mental health, and demonstrated advanced level practice and supervision skills, with experience at Level 2 or higher.
    • Demonstrated advanced skills in the comprehensive assessment and management of young people with mental health problems.
    • Demonstrated experience working with young people with complex needs including an understanding of current treatment approaches for people experiencing psychosis with other possible co-morbidities, including substance use problems.
    • Current NSW Drivers Licence (P1 and P2 acceptable).
