About the role

Concord Repatriation General Hospital has a well-earned reputation for excellence in healthcare for over 70 years. Building on its proud heritage of caring for the Veteran community, the hospital now services the local communities of Concord, Strathfield, Burwood and beyond.

 
The burns statewide clinical specialist role is a front line clinical position responsible for the management of burns survivors at the Concord Burns unit. This includes the management of patients across the entire burns journey including ICU management, inpatient ward management, outpatient follow up and telehealth support for rural patients. The role is responsible for the supervision of the level 1/2 rotating burns OT clinican, along with facilitating student placements. The position is a research active role, developing and participating in research into burns management and is a key member of the ACI Statewide Burns service.
 

Daily requirements of the Burns OT role:

  • Wound management including management of blisters hyper-granulation and hyper keratosis 

  • Scar assessment management including scar massage, compression garment, silicone gel sheet

  • Positioning and splinting post Burns acute and management

  • Hand therapy post Burns, graft and flap

  • Hand function retraining, desensitization 

  • Complex discharge planning

  • Telehealth for rural patients

  • Collaboration with multi-disciplinary team

  • Return to home and work 

  • Liaison with worker's compensation.

  • Management of Burns in- patient and out- patient.

  • Supervision for Burns level 1-2 OT and Level 3 Hands OT

Ideal Candidate
  • Bachelor or post graduate degree in Occupational Therapy and current registration with AHPRA.
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge, skill and significant clinical experience in the provision of Occupational Therapy.
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated ability in building and maintaining professional and therapeutic relationships through the application of written, verbal, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
