About the Opportunity
Want to work in a world class Microbiology Laboratory? An opportunity exists for a permanent full-time Medical Laboratory Technologist (TO) with a passion for Microbiology to join the NSW Health Pathology Microbiology Department laboratory team nestled in the Liverpool Hospital. 

We are seeking a level-headed person with good laboratory skills, an eye for detail, good organizational skills and excellent communication and teaching skills. You will be working with a dedicated team of Scientists, providing quality services to South Western Sydney Local Health District network patients.

Continued professional development is essential in this role and opportunities will be provided to support these activities. We will be looking for your strengths and once trained you will be required to participate in a 24/7 roster on a rostered basis. Participation in an on-call roster is mandatory.

What you'll be doing

Perform a range of laboratory investigations and tests (manual and automated) and technical tasks by applying established methods and procedures, as directed. Undertake other laboratory duties including preparation of materials and the maintenance of equipment in line with established laboratory processes, procedures and protocols.

  1. Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services within a clinical microbiology department, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems
  3. Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
  4. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations
  5. Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers and patients as well as clinical laboratory staff
  6. Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment
  7. Demonstrated commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities
