Sydney Local Health District is one of the fastest growing Local Health Districts in New South Wales. Our facilities and services are world class and our staff are dedicated, innovative and caring.

About the Role

The NSW Model of care for consumers with mental illness aims to support evidenced-based care for the treatment and management of mental illness for consumers presenting to NSW health services in public settings. It outlines the implementation of appropriate care that is consistent with current guidelines and has been shown to be effective in the treatment and management of mental illness within the Australian context.

Under the Towards Zero Suicides investment in NSW, Suicide Prevention Outreach Teams (SPOTs) are being established. This initiative will expand the local suicide prevention workforce in each local health district so more people will receive support more quickly. Many people in a suicidal crisis struggle to find timely appropriate care.

The goal of the clinical psychologist will be to offer accessible, holistic care within a recovery oriented framework. Clinical interventions will consist of assessment of psychosocial and psychological reasons for the person’s need for
support, risk assessment, stabilisation, safety planning, distress recognition and targeted psychological interventions including brief, medium and longer term therapeutic interventions.

The Clinical Psychologist will participate in the evaluation of clinical outcomes of services, assist in the development and provision of education and training programs, and will be expected to work in teams with peer support workers. Clinical work will occur within the context of a multidisciplinary health care team.
