About the Role

Formed in 1882, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) is a major metropolitan tertiary referral hospital and a principal provider of specialist healthcare. It remains one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities. 

  

The trainee participates in the Public Health Nurse training program by completing an appropriate post-graduate qualification in the area of public health alongside work-based training over two years. The traineeship consists of three eight month rotations in specialty fields, including, infectious diseases, immunisation, and epidemiology (including emergency management) , over a maximum 2 year period. The role contributes to building capacity to meet growing service demands with an overall aim to improve health protection outcomes for residents in SLHD in accordance with relevant NSW Health legislation, guidelines and operational plans.

Ideal Candidate

  • Current nursing registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) and demonstrated high level clinical nursing knowledge and extensive experience and skills in acute care nursing. 
  • Commitment to professional development in the speciality area of public health nursing. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated through the ability to communicate confidently and effectively with colleagues, senior health professionals and members of the public. 
  • An understanding of the role of public health units in NSW.
