About the Role

Formed in 1882, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) is a major metropolitan tertiary referral hospital and a principal provider of specialist healthcare. It remains one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities. 

  

The purpose of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) position is to provide senior nursing clinical leadership in the development of specialist clinical practice and service delivery within a nursing unit, team or service. 

  

The CNS employs advanced clinical skills and exercises extended autonomy of decision making working closely with managers and other senior clinicians. 

 

The position is predominantly based at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA) and provides the following: 

  • Onsite case management within the multidisciplinary team. 
  • Comprehensive case management for clients, including assessment, care planning and coordination of support across inpatient, outpatient and community settings. 
  • Closely working with a Level 3 Social Worker and broader MDT to deliver integrated, person centred care. 
  • Assistance to colleagues by providing clinical support and service coverage during periods of leave, ensuring continuity of care for clients. 
  • Strong capability in engaging and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including participation in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences and interagency forums.

Ideal Candidate

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years' experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation. 
  • Ability to prioritise and problem solve to manage the complex clinical care needs of patients through the development and use of clinical management plans. 
  • Experience in leading and initiating activities to improve clinical service delivery and patient clinical outcomes. 
  • Computer skills including word processing, presentation, spread sheet applications and clinical information systems.
