About the Role
Sydney Local Health District Mental Service is committed to improving mental health for people and our communities by providing quality mental health services in partnership with consumers, families and service providers by providing quality healthcare, delivery of safe appropriate care, ensuring access to services, supporting our workforce, and working closely with the local community to manage the changing demand for services.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) provides expert clinical advice to patients, carers and other health care professionals within a defined specialty through the delivery of specialist consultant service which:
- Develops implements and evaluates care management plans for patients with complex health needs.
- Provides leadership in the ongoing development of clinical practice.
- Initiates and utilises findings of research in the provision of clinical services.
- Contributes to the development and delivery of specialty related education programs.
- Participates in formal processes for the strategic and operational planning for the clinical service.
The Burudyara Concord Forensic Mental Health Unit is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility being established as part of the NSW Statewide Mental Health Infrastructure Program. Located on the grounds of the Concord Centre for Mental Health, the Unit will provide 18 medium secure and 24 low secure forensic mental health beds, significantly expanding access to specialised care.
As part of a broader network of services delivered by Sydney Local Health District, Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network, and other partners, the Unit plays a critical role in strengthening the State’s forensic mental health capacity. With operations set to commence from February 2026, this is a rare opportunity to contribute to the development of a landmark service from its inception and shape the future of forensic mental health care in NSW.

Ideal Candidate
- Current nursing registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) and 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field.
- Holds approved postgraduate qualifications relevant to the specialty or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
