About the Role

Drug Health Services (DHS) aims to reduce the harms associated with substance use for individuals, families and communities and to prevent drug misuse. Services are provided at Canterbury, Concord Repatriation General and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals and at Canterbury, Marrickville and Redfern Health Centres. Selected programs offer services in community and via approved outreach arrangements.

 

The Youth Service provides support and education for young people aged 12 to 25 and their families and or carers in dealing with complex drug and alcohol related challenges. 

 

The core functions of the multidisciplinary community based team are:

  • Provide care coordination for young people with drug & alcohol issues, as informed by their professional discipline.
  • Facilitate the development of care plans in consultation with all relevant parties utilising harm reduction principles and best practice models.
  • Provide referral for young people with drug & alcohol issues to appropriate support services.
  • Provide support for other staff (mainstream, drug & alcohol, Youth Sector etc.) in relation to youth drug and alcohol issues.
  • Support education and health improvements initiatives for young people experiencing drug and alcohol issues and develop links and partnerships with other services.

 

The team works in the community setting and aims to provide a safe platform for open dialogue and assists in the development of strategies to empower young people and their families and or carers in their journey towards recovery.

Ideal Candidate

  • Current nursing registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) and 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience. 
  • Holds approved postgraduate qualifications relevant to the specialty or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate. 
  • Leadership skills and excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
