The Role

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) provides leadership and expertise in the care, management, education and support of patients, carers and other health professionals within St George Hospital through a specialist consultant service which:  

  • Develops, implements and evaluates care management plans for patients with complex health needs.
  • Provides leadership, advice and recommendations on all aspects of nursing, consulting in matters relating to safe and appropriate use of orthopaedic related nursing practice.
  • Provides leadership and evidence information in the ongoing development of nursing practice to enable high quality care.
  • Contributes to the development and delivery of speciality related education programs.
  • Participates in formal processes for the strategic and operational planning for the clinical service.

Selection Criteria

  1. Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  2. Minimum of 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field in an acute care facility, and/or post graduate qualifications relevant to the field of practice.
  3. Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice
  4. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills across a variety of mediums and an understanding of the practice development framework
  5. Proven ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence-based research.
  6. Demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning including an understanding of organisational behaviour, change management and cultural change processes.
  7. Demonstrated skills in clinical teaching, competence in the use of contemporary information systems and experience in the development of specialty education programs.
  8. Demonstrated clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy with the ability to work independently.
