The Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Service (PIMHS) are seeking an emotionally intelligent, client centred, passionate and enthusiastic Senior mental health clinician to join the new Nurturing Connections Team. 

Nurturing Connections is a parent-child relationship program which aims to improve outcomes for children and families through evidence-based assessment and intervention for caregivers and their infants and young children. The team will work with caregivers experiencing significant mental health challenges,  and other parental stressors (e.g. substance use, DV, trauma, etc), who are pregnant or caring for a child up to age 5. The Nurturing Connections multi-disciplinary team will work within the community and across government and non-government organisations.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a new team within the SESLHD PIMH Service.

Where you'll be working:

This position will be based at Woniora Road, Hurstville and will involve home visiting and travel to other sites across SESLHD.

Selection criteria:

  1. Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award. for social work (eligible member of AASW), and occupational therapy (with current AHPRA registration), or registered nurse (with current AHPRA registration) at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, and in addition who has approved post registration nursing qualifications relevant to the field, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation or Psychologist with a recognised 4 year degree in Psychology (with current registration with AHPRA) and at least 8 years’ post full registration experience.
  2. Extensive post graduate clinical experience in mental health, and previous experience in working with families of infants/children in which parents are experiencing severe and complex psychosocial and psychiatric problems and demonstrated knowledge of the impact of mental health problems and mental illness on parenting, parent-infant/child relationships and infant/child development.
  3. Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
  4. Demonstrated ability to provide high level clinical advice, and development of education tools or programs to support others in providing service excellence.
  5. Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature.
  6. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes.
  7. Demonstrated experience in providing advice to managers on clinical service development, practice change and service redesign.
  8. Current unrestricted NSW drivers licence and willingness to travel.
