The Role
The Registered Nurse, Scrub & Scout within the Operating Suite at Prince of Wales Hospital is responsible for delivering safe, holistic, and high-quality perioperative nursing care in accordance with Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) competency standards, NSW Health, and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District policies and procedures.
The role works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team to assess, plan, coordinate, and evaluate patient care, ensuring continuity of care and optimal surgical outcomes.
Key responsibilities include effective communication with patients and clinicians, maintaining accurate and compliant clinical documentation, applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills in complex clinical situations, and prioritising care within a dynamic operating theatre environment.
The position also contributes to clinical supervision, supports a culture of safety and quality improvement, and maintains professional knowledge and skills through ongoing education and professional development activities.
Where You'll be Working
Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370. Each year we care for more than 70,000 patients in our Emergency Department and have around 50,000 admissions to the inpatient units. POWH offers an outpatient service and rural outreach service and provides more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year, including innovative virtual models of care. We have transitioned the majority of inpatient units and wards to the Acute Services Building (ASB) including a state of the art Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. POWH provides an exceptional staff experience and enhanced patient and family outcomes as a result of the provision of person-centred care.

Selection Criteria
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively engage with patients/clients to enhance service delivery and to guide others in providing service excellence.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
- Strong computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of risk management, Work Health and Safety and quality principles and the role of the Registered Nurse in applying these principles.
- Recent postgraduate clinical scrub/scout experience an Acute Operating Theatre setting.
