Are you a recently graduated Enrolled Nurse or about to graduate with an interest in pursuing a career at The Sutherland Hospital? Come and be a part of a 12 month supported and tailored program that encourages newly graduated Enrolled Nurses to reach their full potential as skilled clinicians.  
 The Sutherland Hospital Transition to Professional Practice Program for Enrolled Nurses is designed to develop and enhance the skills and knowledge of a first year Enrolled Nurse to implement safe, quality patient care within a supported, clinical learning environment.  The program provides an opportunity for newly graduated EN’s to undertake two rotations in a variety of units/departments during the 12 month program.

The Enrolled Nurse works under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and assists in the provision of nursing care. Enrolled Nurses retain responsibility for their personal actions whilst remaining accountable to the Registered Nurse for delegated functions.

 All Enrolled Nurses must comply and act in accordance with recognised professional and organisational standards established by: 

  • NSW Health
  • The Nurses and Midwives Board of Australia
  • South Eastern Sydney Local Health District

The TSH Enrolled Nurse Transition Program offers:

  • The programs begin with extensive orientation, designed to prepare you for clinical work and introduce you to the clinical setting
  • Continuing Professional Development sessions
  • Clinical Supervision sessions with the Transition Program Clinical Nurse Educator
  • Rotation in two clinical areas over a 12 month period
  • Education and support from a dedicated team of educators and senior staff in clinical areas
  • Clinical Nurse Educator to coordinate the Transition Program and support your progress
  • Preceptors, mentors and Clinical Nurse Educators on each site
  • Clinical supervision at the point of care is the role and responsibility of each Registered Nurse/Midwife and Enrolled Nurse within everyday clinical practice, in line with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council Decision Making Frameworks for Nurses and Midwives.

Selection Criteria

  1. Current registration or be eligible for registration as an Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) prior to the agreed date for commencement of employment.
  2. Holds a Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia approved qualification in medicines administration or be eligible prior to agreed date of employment
  3. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers, other care providers, hospital clinicians, immediate team members and other stakeholders
  4. Supports working in a person centred environment
  5. Current professional practice knowledge base
  6. Basic computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems
