About the opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our dynamic team at one of the largest teaching hospitals in NSW for Morphology. Our state-of-the-art laboratory specialises in morphological examination of a broad range of leukaemia's, lymphoma's and haematological disorders and includes paediatric morphology, kleihauer testing, urinary haemosiderin and malarial parasite screening. We also provide essential scientific supervision for our category B laboratories across Northern Sydney and Northern NSW, which includes providing training, education, investigating incidents and providing corrective and preventative actions.

The Haematology laboratory is located on Level 5 in the Acute Services Building of Royal Northh Shore Hospital. Conveniently located only a short 4-minute walk from St Leonards train station, making it easily accessible via public transport. Staff parking also available.

What you'll be doing
Responsible for the management of scientific, technical and support staff, all testing and associated activities and logistics for the assigned laboratory. The position oversees the quality, cost and operational integrity of the department, regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory services in the department, human resource, business and resource management.

- Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution
- Extensive high-level knowledge working in a Morphology laboratory with knowledge of the operation and maintenance of analytical equipment in a pathology laboratory
- Demonstrated experience in training and educating staff in identifying a range of cell populations
- Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff, along with report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems
- Demonstrated managerial skills with experience in laboratory operations, administration and budgeting
- Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems including supervision of e-based Quality Management Systems
Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements
