About the opportunity
The Mortuary at Westmead Hospital is currently seeking 2 x Mortuary Technicians to join our team on a permanent full-time basis. In this position you will be required to be a part of a rotating roster working Monday to Saturday, including public holidays and on-call.

Westmead Hospital Mortuary is part of the Department of Tissue Pathology & Diagnostic Oncology. Located in the ICPMR Building on Westmead Campus, the mortuary is staffed by a dedicated team of highly experienced technicians who uphold the highest standards of mortuary practice.

What you'll be doing
Mortuary Technicians perform a very important role in the end of life care of deceased patients and their families. Mortuary Technicians respectfully admit, store and release deceased patients from the mortuary and undertake duties in support of the family and the patients wishes such as tissue donation and viewings. They work closely with pathology and clinical teams including social workers, post-mortem coordinators and medical records, whom provide advice in respect to release and management of deceased's length of stay and other internal and external stakeholders such as pastoral care, public health unit, funeral directors, statewide contractors, Police, Coroner and cultural groups.

  1. Demonstrated experience performing post mortem/donation/clinical procedures or being a care provider in clinical, funeral or home care setting.  
  2. Demonstrated computer literacy and understanding of medical terminology.
  3. Proven ability to work with the deceased in an environment that could be distressing, ensuring to raise any associated concerns and/or need for support, and adopt self-care strategies.
  4. Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner in a team environment, and to effectively communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  5. Display initiative and attention to detail in all aspects of clinical and clerical work practices.
  6. Commitment to the principles of continuous quality improvement activities, Work Health & Safety, and infection control guidelines.
  7. Willingness to work shift work and participate in an on-call roster, and travel in accordance with the demands of the role holding a current NSW driver's license.
  8. Demonstrated capacity to adopt and model the NSWHP RITE values of Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Excellence.
