About the opportunity
An exciting opportunity awaits a Medical Laboratory Technician to work with a great team on a Full Time basis at the Royal North Shore Hospital, NSWHP Microbiology Department, Molecular Microbiology Division. The laboratory operates 7 days a week and the successful candidate must be able to participate in a 7-day week rotating roster once fully trained.

The opportunity will allow the successful candidate to gain valuable experience whilst working with a young, dynamic, motivated, and energetic team in our Molecular Microbiology Division, located on the Royal North Shore Hospital Campus, in the suburb of St Leonards. What you'll be doing
Perform a range of laboratory investigations and tests (manual and automated) and technical tasks by applying established methods and procedures at the Department of Microbiology, Molecular Microbiology Division, as directed. Undertake other laboratory duties including preparation of materials and the maintenance of equipment in line with established laboratory processes, procedures and protocols. The successful candidate must be able to participate in a 7-day week rotating roster.

  1. Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services within a diagnostic Clinical Molecular Microbiology Laboratory, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems
  3. Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
  4. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations
  5. Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers and patients as well as clinical laboratory staff
  6. Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment
  7. Commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities
  8. Ability to participate in a 7-day week rotating roster
