About the opportunity
NSW Health Pathology currently have two opportunities available for a Full Time Permanent and a Part Time Permanent Medical Laboratory Assistant, in the Central Specimen Reception department of NSW Health Pathology at Randwick. The full time role involves a 7 day rotating roster with start times varying from 05:00 to 22:30. The roster includes public holidays to be worked on a rostered basis. The part time role (16 hours per week) is primarily required to work Thursdays and Fridays 8.30am to 5.00pm but may be required to cover other 24-7 shifts as required by the department. Both roles are shift work roles.

What you'll be doing

- A working knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to learn, all aspects of the laboratory environment relevant to the Department
- Demonstrated ability to maintain high quality work output while managing competing priorities
- Demonstrated customer service experience and skills, preferably in a laboratory environment, including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical staff
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills combined with the ability to investigate and resolve general issues within the laboratory environment
- Excellent data entry skills including high attention to detail and data accuracy
- Awareness of legislation, policies and requirements relevant to a laboratory setting
- Ability and willingness to work shifts, on a 24-7 rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays.
- Demonstrated experience in a laboratory or similar environment.
