About the Opportunity

We are currently looking to fill vacancies in the Specimen Reception Area at Bankstown Hospital.  Come and join our dynamic team of multidisciplinary technical staff who are servicing the needs of the diverse and rapidly growing South Western Sydney region.
Specimen Reception Area plays a vital role in preparing specimens for diagnostic testing, with the main role of accepting pathology samples for processing, data entry of patient details into the laboratory information system, as well as other specimen reception responsibilities to ensure a timely, streamlined process focused on best patient outcomes. The Technical Assistants participate in a 24/7 rotating roster which include weekends.

The experience and knowledge gained in this role provide a strong foundation for a rewarding career in pathology. Many of our team members go on to secure roles in laboratory testing areas, making this a great entry point for long-term growth and development within NSW Health Pathology.

What you'll be doing
Perform a range of laboratory support, data entry and specimen reception services whilst provide assistance to laboratory staff, under supervision, to deliver a patient focused service.

  1. A working knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to learn, all aspects of the laboratory environment relevant to the Department
  2. Demonstrated ability to maintain high quality work output while managing competing priorities
  3. Demonstrated customer service experience and skills, preferably in a laboratory environment, including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical staff
  4. Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills combined with the ability to investigate and resolve general issues within the laboratory environment
  5. Excellent data entry skills including high attention to detail and data accuracy
  6. Awareness of legislation, policies and requirements relevant to a laboratory setting
  7. Ability and willingness to work shifts, on a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays
