About the Opportunity

Support the Director Aeromedical Clinical Operations in the day-to-day co-ordination and ongoing development of the NSW Medical Retrieval System.

Flexible Work Conditions

Flexible work practices, including off-site or remote work, are available to State Retrieval Consultants (SRC) in accordance with both the NSWH PD2025_005 Policy Directive – Flexible Work and the NSWA PRO2025-032 Operating Procedure – Flexible Working at NSW Ambulance.


About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Registration, or eligibility for registration, as a Medical Practitioner with Fellowship of a recognised Critical Care College (Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia, Intensive Care), or equivalent, with evidence of current and ongoing clinical practice in the relevant specialty.
  • Demonstrated experience in retrieval medicine, including pre-hospital and inter-hospital settings.
  • Proven experience in pre-hospital and inter-hospital retrieval and coordination within NSW, or comparable experience within another Australian jurisdiction.
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, composed, and effective when working in high-pressure and time-critical environments.
  • Capacity and willingness to participate in retrieval operations across multiple platforms, including helicopter, fixed-wing aircraft, and road ambulance.
  • Strong understanding of the NSW Health system, with particular knowledge of critical care services.
  • Familiarity with the NSW major incident framework, including Healthplan.
  • Demonstrated management experience, with the ability to lead and support teams effectively.

Conditions

  • There is no entitlement to Transferred Employees Benefit (TEB) or travel allowance associated with this opportunity.
  • No NSW Ambulance accommodation is provided.
  • Employee’s currently undertaking an Extended Care Paramedic or Intensive Care Paramedic consolidation periods are eligible to apply however will need to complete all training and return of service obligations before accepting any relief/acting opportunities.
  • Employee’s currently undertaking a Special Operations Team (SOT) consolidation period are not eligible to apply for positions other than SOT positions. This includes positions offered via merit selection, transfer lists or later transfer mechanism, expressions of interest or secondments.
