This is a rare opportunity for a Sydney based Occupational Physician seeking meaningful, ongoing part- time work in a complex, high-risk operational environment. Your expertise will directly support the health, safety and wellbeing of NSW Ambulance's frontline workforce.

The Staff Specialist, Occupational Physician provides expert, risk-based medical advice that supports safe, sustainable work across NSW Ambulance.

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver specialist advice on pre-employment medical assessments, fitness for duty, and the management of non-work-related health conditions that may impact safe performance.
  • Contribute to the development, review and implementation of policies, standards and safe systems of work, including the Paramedic Health Standard.
  • Work closely with executive leaders, People & Culture, operational managers, employees and external medical providers to deliver high-quality, evidence-based occupational health guidance.
  • Analyse workforce health data to identify trends, inform decision-making, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Providing expert, risk-based occupational health advice to support safe work practices.
  • Assessing and managing medical conditions affecting employment and fitness for duty.
  • Developing and implementing policy frameworks and safe systems of work.
  • Reviewing and improving the Paramedic Health Standard and other workforce health initiatives.
  • Using workforce health data to identify risks, trends and opportunities for improvement.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered (or eligible) Medical Practitioner with AHPRA, with Fellowship of AFOEM, AFPHM, RACP, or other specialist recognition under the Staff Specialist (State) Award.
  • Demonstrated expertise in occupational health assessments, including fitness and capacity for work.
  • Experience consulting on occupational health risks, with strong capability in identifying, assessing and controlling health and safety risks.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing medical education.
  • Proven ability to provide expert medical advice at an executive or organisational level.
  • Experience in public health, occupational health or medical governance, with the ability to balance service delivery, resource use and organisational priorities.
  • Understanding of Diversity & Inclusion principles, including reasonable workplace adjustments in line with legislation and NSW Health policy.
