Where you'll be working
Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit, Division of Women's Children's & Family Health, Royal North Shore Hospital St Leonards

What you'll be doing
The purpose of this position is performing Medical Imaging procedures to a high standard, and ensuring that the production of diagnostic imaging is made available to the clinician. Provide Medical Imaging to a high diagnostic quality, performing complex clinical procedure with a high degree of competency. The Sonographer will need to maintain safety in the unit and the specific techniques involved in a specialist area and maintain current knowledge of all advanced ultrasound practices.

The Senior Sonographer will:
• be responsible for keeping accurate records and providing evidence for the submission of DIAS and NSQHS accreditation.
• evaluate and audit work quality, manage staff performance and appraisals, escalate performance concerns as needed, and allocate staff to ensure service coverage.
• complete all mandatory training and participate in development activities as required by management, while actively developing and pursuing ongoing self-improvement in collaboration with leadership..
• establish clinical protocols, support Continuous Quality Improvement, and liaise with Field Engineers, Application Specialists, and sales teams regarding equipment purchases, installations, software, and servicing, order equipment and consumables as needed, ensure timely exam flow, and escalate delays when necessary
• support the aims of the organisation’s safety management system to establish and foster a positive health and safety culture.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Current AHPRA registration to work as a Radiographer, with the MRPB of Australia and a valid EPA Radiation Licence.
  2. Post graduate experience in medical ultrasound with accreditation as a Sonographer with the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR).
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the establishment of clinical protocols, manuals, quality assurance and departmental Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
  4. Demonstrated ability to perform complex clinical procedures within specialist modality with a high degree of competency and the ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and complete activities either individually or as part of a team, including ability to work within scope of practice and escalate as required.
  5. Demonstrated strong leadership skills with ability to enhance staff performance, influence workplace culture, lead change and accept responsibility; including a high level verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and problem solving skills with a strong customer service approach and ability to exercise judgement when managing or escalating complex cases.
