Paediatric Speech Pathologist
Grab a rare opportunity to gain experience in a specialised caseload and service in a Level 4 Paediatric Speech Pathologist position in the Hornsby Hospital Speech Pathology Department. This is a temporary part time (22hrs) maternity leave locum from 9/6/2025 up to 17/7/2026 and would be required Mon-Wed. The role is interesting, fast paced and fun with student supervision and coordination, multidisciplinary clinical work, and specialised clinical casleoads including paediatric feeding, ARFID and CAS. The position is well supported, and we don’t expect staff to be highly skilled or experienced in all areas. Training will be provided as needed. What you'll be doing
The Speech Pathologist is part of a team of specialist multidisciplinary allied health professionals providing services to inpatients and outpatients with complex medical or health needs. They will be working with families, together with medical and nursing outpatient services to ensure the child/youth’s journey is seamless and well-coordinated. We offer consultation, assessment, management with treatment for infants, children and adolescents with all types of medical conditions requiring a multidisciplinary team approach.
Speech Pathology services are offered for children with medically based feeding issues, including, but not limited to, anatomical differences (cleft palate, tongue tie), swallow safety concerns (eg. aspiration), tube weaning, and severe food restrictions (extreme picky eaters). Video fluoroscopic Swallow Studies are conducted on site. The role provides SOS (Sequential Oral Sensory) groups. Support and intervention is also provided to clients with communication difficulties associated with neurological conditions, including CAS, other medical diagnoses and complex medical histories.
The position also has a strong student training role and is responsible for hosting students consistently throughout the year, department organisation of students, including placement organisation, liaison with universities, scheduling, orientation, tutorials, support and mentoring to staff on student related topics.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Bachelor or post graduate degree in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia. Extensive post graduate clinical experience as a level 2 Speech Pathologist or above. Current and unrestricted NSW drivers licence (P2 licence acceptable).
- Experience in the management of a complex paediatric Speech Pathology caseload, including clients with underlying medical or health needs (ie. neurological, genetic/medical, anatomical aetiologies).
- Experience in the assessment and management of complex feeding difficulties, including inpatients and outpatients.
- Significant experience in clinical education and supervision of students.
