An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated, enthusiastic and hardworking mental health Nursing Unit Manager in the Mental Health Intensive Care Unit (MHICU) at Hornsby Hospital. The MHICU is a specialist 12-bed tertiary referral unit with a focus on high quality evidence-based intensive care management of mental health consumers. You will have the opportunity to work with an experienced and dynamic recovery-orientated team including a strong leadership group focusing on complex and challenging mental health consumers.

What you'll be doing

The Nurse Unit Manager Level 3 (NUM 3) holds responsibility for all aspects of the service environment and is accountable for ensuring the standard of consumer care within the service. The NUM provides strategic and operational leadership that is essential to coordinating consumer care, overseeing clinical practice, and managing resources to support the delivery of safe, effective, and high quality nursing care. The NUM’s leadership is pivotal in ensuring that mental health services function cohesively, efficiently, and with a strong focus on safety, clinical excellence, and consumer/patient experience.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Registered Nurse-Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) AND Relevant management tertiary qualification OR equivalent work experience, OR a combination of study and work experience; and demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment within mental health setting and the ability to lead high quality services within effective and efficient management strategies and change management skills.
  3. Demonstrated experience managing acute complex and challenging clinical behaviours within a consumer centred, recovery focused framework.
