Where you'll be working
Ward 5D is a busy and rewarding 32 bed mixed medical and surgical ward that cares for patients with a broad range of acute and complex care needs. The ward manages a diverse patient cohort requiring coordinated multidisciplinary care, strong clinical leadership, and a commitment to excellence in patient outcomes.

What you'll be doing
As Nurse Unit Manager, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for Ward 5D, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality care while supporting and developing a skilled and engaged workforce.
Reporting to the Nurse Manager for Surgery and Anaesthetics, you will be responsible for:
- Leading and inspiring a multidisciplinary team to achieve excellence in patient care.
- Driving a positive workplace culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and professional development.
- Ensuring the delivery of safe, evidence-based, patient-centred care.
- Managing operational performance, staffing, budgets, and resources effectively.
- Supporting patient flow and facilitating efficient discharge planning.
- Leading quality improvement initiatives and maintaining compliance with accreditation standards.
- Building strong relationships with patients, families, medical staff, and key stakeholders across the organisation.
About You
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
- Bachelor of Science (Nursing) or equivalent
- Senior clinical care experience in a relevant speciality
- Proven leadership experience in an acute hospital setting.
- Strong clinical knowledge within medical and/or surgical services.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- A track record of leading teams through change and driving continuous improvement.
- The ability to build engagement, resilience, and accountability within a diverse workforce.
- A commitment to delivering outstanding patient and staff experiences.
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Registered Nurse-Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) AND Relevant management tertiary qualification OR equivalent work experience, OR a combination of study and work experience; and demonstrated commitment to professional development.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and support a clinical team.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy in Microsoft Applications, roster management systems and electronic medical records.
- Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in change management and initiating a new service delivery model within an established service.
- Evidence of and commitment to patient/customer focussed care, clinical governance and quality improvement.
