About the Role
The position is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of:
- the care of consumers admitted to PECC including consumers age 14 and above in collaboration with CYMHS
- PECC clinical governance, clinical quality and safety and clinical key performance indicators
- implementation and evaluation of PECC clinical service plans and models of care - providing effective leadership and liaison with colleagues in the Emergency Department to ensure effective mental health assessment and care in collaboration for all ED presentations.
- ensuring strategic focus within ED to minimise negative outcomes in key areas such as AWOL, re-presentations to ED and ensuring comprehensive care planning for complex MH needs.
Purpose of the Position
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the district.
Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Psychiatrist and/or overseas trained substantial specialist pathways. Applicants expecting to be awarded their FRANZCP within 3 months may be considered

- Demonstrated experience in working as a senior clinician in acute psychiatry, general hospital psychiatry and community-based and inpatient settings, including experience in working with the NSW Mental Health Act 2007 (or equivalent legislation in other jurisdictions).
- Demonstrated ability to work as a leader of a multidisciplinary team across hospital and community settings. Proven high performance as an experienced clinician, with experience in management and leadership, and proven ability to work collaboratively with Emergency Department.
- Understanding of and commitment to the National, State and Local Health District strategic directions including commitment to a performance-based organisation.
- Experience in liaising and working closely with GPs, consumers and carers with demonstrated understanding of the recovery and care coordination models of care.
- Experience in teaching psychiatry to students, trainees and others and supervising trainees in psychiatry.
- Demonstrated interest in improvement of clinical governance of mental health services, including quality improvement methodologies, and a commitment to fostering this interest in medical staff and other clinicians.
