Purpose of the Position

The Clinical Director MHDA is responsible for the oversight of the processes of former, current and future care in NSLHD MHDA ensuring that there is effective implementation and ongoing review of the MHDA Clinical Governance framework, aligned with NSLHD and NSWH policy/directives/guidelines. This includes review and implementation of service changes relevant to the Clinical Director's role. 
The Clinical Director MHDA is a Staff Specialist position providing effective leadership and mentoring for all medical staff (HMOs, VMOs, SSs, CMOs, RMOs, and JMOs), including the management of the HETI Psychiatry Network B Training in collaboration with the Director of Psychiatry Training. 

The Clinical Director is the professional head for seven Clinical Director positions across MHDA, the Macquarie University Clinical Placement Co-ordinator and the Academic Professor of Psychiatry 

The Clinical Director MHDA is also operationally responsible for the following positions across MHDA: 
a. The Director of Psychiatry Training Centre (Network B) 
b. Medical Workforce Manager 
c. Executive Assistant to the Clinical Director MHDA 
d. Project Managers related to enhancement funding for clinical purposes (currently the Towards Zero Suicide Manager). 

The Clinical Director is required to effectively liaise with NSWH and its Pillars in clinical (where relevant corporate) governance, medical workforce and other matters within the scope of the role pertaining to MHDA as required. 

The Clinical Director is required to contribute to the academic work of NSLHD MHDA in teaching and research by ensuring medical practice is contemporaneous, evidence based and integrated across all clinical streams and services. 

The Clinical Director will also deputise for the MHDA Director (as required) and participate on the NSLHD MHDA Executive on-call roster. 

 

Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them
  3. Appropriate experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Psychiatry, in acute, continuing care, community based, inpatient and/or specialist settings and sound knowledge of the application of NSW Mental Health Act 2007, NSW Mental Health and Cognitive Impairment Forensic Provisions Act 2020, the NSW Drug and Alcohol Treatment Act 2007 and commitment to State, National and Local Health District strategic direction, including commitment to a performance-based organisation
  4. Experience working at an Executive level across a complex matrix organization with Executive portfolios to lead, plan for and deliver on
  5. Demonstrated understanding and practical application of the Principles and Systems of Clinical Governance
  6. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and experience working at all levels of the organization with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and partners
  7. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and publishing research as relevant to the position
  8. Demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment
