Exciting Opportunity – NICU Research Nurse | Royal North Shore Hospital

An exceptional opportunity exists to join the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) research team at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH). This role offers the chance to contribute to high-impact clinical research that directly shapes the care of our most vulnerable patients.

Working closely with the Neonatal Medical Research Lead, the successful candidate will play a key role in the coordination and management of clinical trials within the neonatology department. This includes supporting study implementation, ensuring protocol adherence, and contributing to the delivery of safe, high-quality research practices.

Neonatal care as we know it today has been profoundly influenced by landmark clinical trials challenging established practices, introducing safer and more effective therapies, and ultimately improving outcomes for premature and critically unwell infants. This position provides a unique opportunity to be part of that ongoing advancement.

Our unit is currently recruiting participants for several significant clinical trials, including:

  • ACEDUCT – Investigating whether co-administration of paracetamol and ibuprofen improves duct-related outcomes in extremely premature infants
  • SURFSUP – Comparing MIST (Minimally Invasive Surfactant Therapy) versus LMA (Laryngeal Mask Airway) for surfactant delivery in infants <37 weeks gestation
  • HUMTE – Evaluating optimal humidity levels (80% vs 95%) for extremely preterm infants

The RNSH NICU has a proud history of contributing to neonatal research for over 20 years, participating in both national and international clinical trials and collaborative studies. Joining this team means becoming part of a highly respected research culture committed to innovation, excellence, and improved outcomes for newborns and their families.

NSLHD is proud of our diverse and inclusive workplaces, a place where health care professionals can thrive and feel they belong. We are committed to ensure that all our people feel respected and participate safely within a work environment without aggression, sexual harassment, discrimination, and racism.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Registered Nurse - Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA
