What you'll be doing
The Deputy Director of Aboriginal Health will provide support and advice to the Executive Director, Aboriginal Health and Workforce, NSLHD to influence strategic direction to ensure the delivery of high-quality health services to Aboriginal people within Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD).
The Deputy Director will support the governance functions and operational oversight of the NSLHD Aboriginal Health Service. The Deputy Director will have specific responsibility and oversight of the cultural integrity and responsiveness strategies led by the Aboriginal Health Service. This will be inclusive of planning and policy development, driving system-level initiatives contributing to Ministry of Health (MoH) KPI targets and advancing progress is all key Aboriginal Health plans, frameworks and governing documents.
This position will be responsible for leading collaboration and project management activities for initiatives within the NSLHD Aboriginal Health Service, ensuring effective coordination, implementation, and reporting as directed by the Executive Director, Aboriginal Health and Workforce.
The role will review, progress, and oversee all NSLHD Aboriginal Health Impact Statements through to endorsement by the Executive Director, Aboriginal Health and Workforce, ensuring compliance with organisational requirements and culturally appropriate practice.
The Deputy Director is responsible for embedding culturally safe practices across NSLHD by working collaboratively with directorates, programs and facility leadership teams to strengthen organisational capability and accountability for Aboriginal Health priorities.
The role leads the delivery of NSLHD Aboriginal Health District orientation programs, including orientation for Junior Medical Officers, to ensure a culturally informed and responsive workforce.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- This is an identified Aboriginal position; applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent through proof of Aboriginality. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
- Tertiary qualifications in a health-related field and/or equivalent experience working in health management roles.
- Demonstrated Aboriginal Health management experience with high level ability to use data/evidence to take a lead role to inform planning, development, monitoring and evaluation of Aboriginal Health initiatives and strategies that improve Aboriginal Health Models of care and organization performance.
- Demonstrated knowledge of legislative and policy frameworks for health policy issues, Aboriginal health and the social, cultural, political and health issues affecting Aboriginal people, families and communities.
