What you'll be doing
The Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) hospital In Reach and Liaison (CHIL) Service is a dedicated, multidisciplinary service providing specialist consultation and liaison for children and young people (0-17) experiencing mental health problems (including co-morbid substance use) and their parents/caregivers, admitted to Royal North Shore or Hornsby Hospital paediatric wards, medical wards, the Psychiatric Emergency Care Centres (PECC), and paediatric outpatients clinics. The service will provide assessment, in-reach consultation-liaison, short-term evidence-based interventions, collaborative care planning with children, young people, their parents/caregivers, and other systems of support as appropriate. The service will collaborate with CYMHS, drug and alcohol, and other services to facilitate early intervention, warm handover and engagement for ongoing community treatment as needed. The service will also provide advice and professional development for medical, nursing, and allied health hospital staff to assist in building capacity in caring for children and young people experiencing mental health and co-morbid substance use difficulties.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience as per clinical discipline and current full AHPRA registration (or eligibility for membership of AASW for Social Workers). Social Work/Occupational Therapy requires experience as a level 2 clinician. Clinical Nurse Consultant will have at least 5 years full-time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full –time equivalent in mental health and approved post graduate qualifications or substantial relevant clinical experience within this setting. Clinical Psychologist will have a postgraduate master’s or Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from an APAC accredited University.
- Extensive experience and knowledge of assessment, formulation, crisis management, therapeutic intervention and effective care planning with children and young people experiencing mental health problems (including co-morbid substance use).
Demonstrated skills and ability to provide clinical consultancy, effective communication, partnership development and negotiation with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
