What you'll be doing
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS2) works as part of the Extended Child and Family Heath Support Service (ECFHSS) within the community-health based, multidisciplinary Child and Family Health Service.
The ECFHS is an early intervention service supporting parents/primary carers, with children aged 0-2 years of age, who are experiencing health and/or psychosocial challenges, which are impacting their own wellbeing and/or their capacity to parent and care for their child. The CNS2 offers specialist, trauma-informed child and family health nursing support in partnership with vulnerable families, to support children’s healthy physical, social and emotional development. This service also aims to promote children’s health and wellbeing to address the escalating prevalence of adult disease and morbidity (NSW Health First 2000 Days Framework). The ECFHSS seeks to engage and work in partnership with families to identify and moderate parent psychosocial challenges, using evidence-based, trauma-informed, attachment-based nursing interventions to promote optimal health and wellbeing for both children and parents.
The ECFHSS aims to promote positive parent-child relationship development and enhance parenting self-efficacy and confidence. The CNS2 works autonomously, within a small team, providing specialist child and family health nursing consultation, liaison and case management. This includes identifying parent and child needs and formulating person-centred, strengths-based and goal-oriented care plans for children and parents with complex needs.
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health Practitioners’ Regulation Authority (APHRA), with post-registration qualifications relevant to child and family health (CFH) nursing and at least three (3) years full time equivalent clinical experience working in a child and family community health setting or such other qualifications or relevant equivalent experience.
- Excellent professional writing skills, ability to effectively use digital health records and Microsoft applications. Current NSW Driver’s licence and willingness to travel within NSLHD.
- Demonstrated ability to apply high level CFH skills, knowledge and clinical reasoning relevant to assessing parent-child relationships, all aspects of child health, development and wellbeing, parental psychosocial and emotional needs and formulating care plans.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of, and ability to apply, family- partnership, person-centred, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and inclusive care principles in practice.
