Clinical Nurse Consultant - Emergency Department
An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated, experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse to join the dynamic multi-disciplinary team at the newly renovated Emergency Department at Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai Hospital in a newly created Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2 (CNC2) position. The role is scheduled to commence on 1 March 2026.

Where you'll be working
HKH Emergency Department is a newly commissioned combined Adult / Paediatric Emergency Department with an amazing team of Clinical NUM’s, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Registered and Enrolled Nursing staff.
What you'll be doing
As the ED CNC you are expected to support the organisation achieve the aims of the safety management system, to establish and maintain a positive health and safety culture in the workplace and to consult with workers and others when making decisions that may impact upon the health, safety and welfare of those in the workplace. Personal and Professional Development
- The CNC will maintain registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Agency and show evidence of currency on an annual basis
- Participate in a performance review at 3 months after commencement, then annually or as required
- Complete education/ skill development packages to meet the organisations' service delivery requirements
- The CNC will be responsible to maintain their own clinical knowledge and skill base to ensure familiarity and compliance with NSLHD Policy and Procedures and participate in the ongoing review and development of same
- The CNC will practice in accordance with Legislative, Organisational and Professional frameworks
Communication
- The CNC2 must be able to establish good working relationships with staff at all levels of the organisation
- The incumbent will be required to communicate at a broad level with internal and external stakeholders
- The incumbent will need to continually exercise excellent interpersonal and communications skills both written and verbal
Decision Making
- The CNC2 will be required to prioritise their workload and manage matters that are urgent and/or of a complex nature
- The incumbent will display initiative and sound critical thinking skills as an essential component of their practice
- The CNC2 will actively manage day to day decision making relating to own work priorities and workload management within the scope of the CNC2 position

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
- Current Authority to Practice from AHPRA as a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience and 3 years fulltime experience in Emergency Nursing and relevant post graduate qualification, or working towards, at Masters Level.
- Advanced clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
- Proven ability to implement change and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence-based research and demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning including an understanding of organisational behaviour, change management and cultural change processes.
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills across a variety of mediums.
- Demonstrated skills in clinical teaching, competency in the use of contemporary information systems and experience in the development of specialty education programs.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake quality improvement and research activities that influence and enhance clinical practice and implement change.
- Demonstrated computer skills with experience using MS Office programs and electronic filing systems, reports and data analytics.
