What you'll be doing

  • Under the direction of the NSRHS Financial Controller, this position is responsible for the provision of finance, business and analysis functions for the Division of Surgery and Anaesthesia within RNSH. This includes the provision and oversight of the Divisions finance & business management, accounting, performance monitoring and service planning systems.
  • The provision of financial and resource management information to managers within the Division and assistance in its analysis.
  • Support the Divisional Operations Manager, by ensuring designated business portfolios/ units efficiently and effectively manage financial resources and budgets. This contribution will assist RNSH to meet financial targets, obligations and KPIs.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Tell us about a time you improved theatre or anaesthetic service performance (e.g., utilisation, cancellations, overtime, turnaround time) by using data and stakeholder engagement. What was the problem, what did you analyse, what did you change, and what measurable results did you deliver?
  2. Can you identify the key cost drivers in a Surgery and Anaesthesia division and explain how you would respond if one of these cost drivers began trending in the wrong direction? In your answer, please include how you would investigate the root cause, implement corrective actions, and communicate the issue and planned response to clinicians and divisional leadership.
  3. Public hospitals operate within strict funding, policy, and industrial constraints, and business managers often need to deliver outcomes without having full authority to change these settings. Can you describe how you would work effectively within these constraints to support decision making and help clinicians and leaders navigate competing priorities?
