What you'll be doing
The position will provide support and advocacy for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients within hospitals and community in the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD). The Aboriginal Liaison Officer has an important role in the care, welfare and assistance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients accessing health services to ensure a culturally safe, appropriate and respectful patient journey.
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage under section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, with knowledge and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander culture.
- Ability to liaise and consult with Government and non-Government agencies at all levels, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations.
- Hold a minimum of Certificate 3 in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care and/or equivalent.
- Demonstrated understanding of the social, psychological and financial implications of hospitalisations for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.
- Knowledge of policies, programs and initiatives pertaining to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander holistic Health.
- Have an advanced knowledge of data analysis and computer literacy including excel.
