Where You Will Be Working
Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) operates a 33 bed inpatient Obstetrics unit, additional inpatient Gynaecology beds, a comprehensive antenatal, postnatal and gynaecology outpatient service and a 7-bed dedicated birth suite. RNSH also provides clinical Obstetric and Gynaecology Placements for Macquarie (MQ) University medical students.
About the Role
The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic team of health professionals providing excellent clinical services in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The role will provide an interesting range of clinical, teaching and research opportunities
The position includes leadership of Obstetric and Gynaecology curriculum design, teaching, on-site supervision and assessment of the MQ students (with support from MQ faculty, a MQ appointed Clinical Midwife Educator and a RNSH Clinical Midwife Educator). The successful applicant will work closely with their counterpart at the Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad, India.
Purpose of the Position
You will provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of clinical practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of
medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within NSLHD.
This position is temporary with the possibility of extension based on performance, funding and need
Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered.

- Sound clinical knowledge in Obstetrics and Gynaecology demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty
- Demonstrated clinical, diagnostic and technical skills commensurate with functioning as an independent Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultant, including demonstrated commitment and experience in clinical governance and medical leadership
- High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrated participation in and commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education, including research, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Demonstrated experience in medical education including curriculum design/implementation, supervision and assessment. Postgraduate qualifications in education would be desirable.
- Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including on-call rosters already existing or established.
