Where you'll be working
Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital is a specialised tertiary referral hospital, teaching hospital and community hospital, providing complex medical, surgical, major trauma for numerous specialties.
We are the busiest ED in the state and a major trauma centre for Northern NSW. John Hunter Hospital is a great place to develop your career as we are delivering services to people of all ages, from birth to childhood and adulthood.
Other regional hospitals part of the HNELHD Network are Belmont, Maitland, Tamworth and Manning Hospital. Other peripheral sites on rotation are Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour
What you'll be doing
The Electrophysiology/Pacing service at John Hunter Hospital serves the entire Hunter New England Area. The population in this area is >800,000. Hence this is a busy service that offers the complete range of procedures. Approximately 400 devices are implanted each year, which includes pacemakers, biventricular devices and defibrillators. Approximately 300 catheter ablations are performed, which include ablations for SVT, atrial tachycardias, and ischaemic and nonischaemic VT. Ablation for atrial fibrillation has been performed at this centre for 15 years. The unit has Carto 3-D mapping systems and uses this regularly in the treatment of AF, atrial and ventricular tachyarrhythmias. The service has been a leader in the use of cryoablation therapy and is currently using the Arctic Front balloon extensively in the treatment of AF.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Completion Basic Physician Training and Admission to Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
- Demonstrated ability to work with appropriate independence within a supervised complex clinical environment
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills (Verbal and Written), and computer skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- A professional attitude and flexibility, with a preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours overtime and on-call rosters
- Demonstrated organisational and time management skills
- Appropriate qualifications and performance in previous training positions
